Mediation efforts fail in Egypt riots

The death toll in Egypt after the third day of riots following deadly violence at a soccer match earlier this week has climbed to 12, according to the health ministry. Protests continued overnight into Sunday
Protesters marched on Egypt's interior ministry on Saturday, where they threw rocks at security forces, who responded with tear gas canisters.
At attempt to negotiate a cease-fire by a group of lawmakers and public figures appeared to have fallen short of the mark as police continued to use force against protesters and those trying to mediate the situation by getting in between the two camps.
Protesters are calling for Egypt's military rulers to step aside and accuse them of exacerbating the fragile situation in Egypt after the fall of President Hosni Mubarak last year.
