Meet world’s shortest woman: She’s 24.7 inches tall

Jyoti Amge gets Guinness record on 18th birthday; she wants to be a Bollywood star

 

Turning 18 marks a major milestone in the life of any young women, but Jyoti Amge finds herself the subject of some added hoopla today – she is now officially the World’s Shortest Living Woman.

Representatives from Guinness World Records traveled to Jyoti’s hometown of Nagpur, India, today to acknowledge her entry into adulthood — and her new entry into its world records. Standing at 24.7 inches, she displaced 2-foot-3-inch American Bridgette Jordan as the world record holder.

 “It is wonderful to celebrate my 18th birthday with a new world record; it’s like an added birthday present,” the pretty brunette with a 10-foot smile said in a statement. “I feel grateful to be this size; after all, if I weren’t small and had not achieved these world records, I might never have been able to visit Japan and Europe, and many other wonderful countries.”Small size, big dreams While Jyoti has a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia that has limited her growth — she’s grown just a third of an inch since she was hailed the World’s Shortest Teenager in 2009, and isn’t expected to grow any further — she makes it clear big dreams can come with a small size

Jyoti plans to pursue her college degree and then seek fame on the big screen in Bollywood film productions. And even though she can look a 2-year-old in the eye, Jyoti is a clotheshorse: She designs her own clothes and jewelry to fit her size.
Jyoti was a vision in a striped sari and necklace at her awards ceremony today, attended by 30 friends and family members. After receiving her plaque and cutting a birthday cake, the 2-foot teen took a moment to brag about her hometown.

“I have put Nagpur on a world map,” she told the Associated Press. “Now everyone will know where it is.”

No less prideful was her dad, Kishanji, who noted that birthdays are always a big deal when it comes to his darling daughter. “This year is a special celebration and we expect more visitors than ever to Jyoti’s birthday party,” he said. “But it has always been this way, she’s always been very popular.Story: Accomplishing amazing athletic feats — in their 80s and 90s

“I am sure this year her birthday party will be very colorful and loud, just like Jyoti!”
While Jyoti revels in her diminutive stature, she lives her life like any young girl, hanging out with her sisters and friends. She has attend
regular school since age 4, sitting at a desk designed to accommodate her.  
 
Guiness World Records Adjudicator Rob Molloy adds that seeing Jyoti embrace her size can serve as a lesson for all. “Jyoti encourages us all to look beyond mere size and to just celebrate our differences,” he said.
